I own the first video in the series, and found this one to be just as thorough and informative. In this one, a comercially-purchased arrangement is reconstructed and then reassembled even better than before- a perfect way to fully learn and understand container arranging. There's also lots of good info about fillers, symmetry, viewing angles, and the types and floors of flowers that work best for certain holidays and social situations.
I first bought the book, Basic Floral Design, and was able to really grasp the basics. I have to say, watching the first video (Floral Design in Vases 101) helped bring everything full circle.
Now, this video goes more advanced, helping you by breaking down an already made piece and re-creating it. Also, aligned with the book, you learn about the importance of selecting proper components and especially more about roses.
I could see the step by step creative process. I think this is the perfect Floral Design course (book AND videos ) for aspiring florists. I highly recommend getting the entire set of instructions.
I have read the floral design books in this series, and have now watched both videos and they are such a great and informative follow-up to the books! It's one thing to read about flowers and floral design, but it's quite another to actually complete it. In this video, I learned so much about the principles of flower design and was able to actually see the beautiful arrangements come alive before my very eyes! It seems so easy because she does a fantastic job of explaining what she does. It was very interesting to understand and learn about the types of containers to use with floral arrangements. I really feel like I'm on my way to becoming and expert floral arranger!!
After reading her fabulous Basic Floral Design book, I knew I had to view Floral Design in Vases 101, and boy was I not disappointed! What a wonderful follow-up to and visual demonstration of the principles described in the book! It was such a different and great experience to actually see these masterpieces come alive, right in front of me on camera! They are all so beautiful and after seeing how simple it is to actually create them, I can't wait to start on my own arrangements. She makes it seem very simple and explains everything so well that I am confident, my arrangements will turn our just as great!

I have really begun to enjoy these videos, they stream so fast, and can even download to your kindle for travel. On par with Deborah Dolen's other books and videos, this one was very informative and easy to follow. Providing simple step by step guidance on how to arrange a variety of flowers in order to make vases for every season. Showing both a winter, and then a summer/fall themed vase this video was very helpful. I really liked the final vase that was mainly pink roses the accent flowers such as the lilly made it stand out and it was easy to replicate at home.
I've always loved playing around with flowers, arranging them in what ways appealed to me. I knew and understood that floral design was an art, and I just never had a chance to pursue it. Yet, the interest remained.
This book covered so much information I had no idea that I didn't even know! From the very basics of caring for the flowers, to detailed explanations of the uses of common materials to full blown explanations for various designs and items (corsages, bouquets, etc.) I was in awe of the amount of informative content within. I bookmarked many pages, looking forward to trying out what Ms. Dolen shared.
I believe that if you are "green" (pun intended) and want to create beautiful floral pieces, you must have this book on hand. I believe that once I have the basics nailed down, I will be able to create the more elaborate examples given in the book.
I am shocked and confused by the negative feedback this book received as I personally think it covers so much information and basic guidance for the beginner to easily begin their own floral pieces.
I enjoyed learning from Ms. Dolen and look forward to viewing the videos that are also available.
